Students Requiring Immediate Referral

Suicide threat

If a student makes a direct or indirect reference to suicide, bring him/her immediately to Counselling or ask a counsellor to come to your area. Judgment about the seriousness of the circumstances should not be made without consultation from a mental health professional.

If you are unsure how to approach the student or the student is unwilling to see a counsellor, consult immediately with a counsellor.

If a student makes a direct threat of suicide and insists on leaving, call Campus Security or 911 immediately. In the event of an actual suicide attempt, call 911 and then Campus Security .

Harm to others

If a student makes a threat of harm to others, contact Campus Security directly or consult with a counsellor. In an emergency, call 911.

Please refer to Security Services’ website for their emergency management guide or consult with Security staff regarding their procedures.

If someone discloses allegations of sexual violence please contact Security to learn how you can help.
